Frequently Asked Questions

What is Intercept?

Intercept is a biblically-based men’s discipleship program that helps men put an end to habitual destructive behavior.  We specialize in actions related to sex, pornography and alcohol but in reality all destructive behaviors come from the same source and the Intercept process addresses that source.

We teach men to take responsibility for their choices and build wholeness in their life through spiritual disciplines, community and accountability. Hundreds of men across multiple states and countries have found lasting freedom through the Intercept program.

Who is Intercept for?

Intercept is for:

  • Men, ages 18 and up

  • Men who feel stuck repeating destructive behaviors, including (but not limited to) pornography, masturbation, adultery, fornication, other expressions of lust, or alcoholism.

  • Men who are willing to do whatever it takes to end the above listed destructive behavior, not simply to save their marriage, but because they want to be a different man.

  • Men who are willing to put in the hard work needed to take responsibility for their lives.

The men who benefit most from Intercept are those who are:

  • Teachable

  • Honest and transparent

  • Wanting a change in life—”fed up” and ready to do whatever it takes

  • Willing to commit and submit to the Intercept process

  • Ready to grow in emotional maturity, not simply end a bad behavior

Please note that Intercept is not for everybody and even though we are backed by many counselors we are not professional counselors ourselves. Please consult a counseling professional for guidance as needed.

What makes Intercept different?

Many things make Intercept different from similar programs, but here are a few:

  • Intercept works. Men experience freedom every day and broken marriages are restored every month in Intercept.

  • We hold the line on member expectations. We are unashamedly a “Work Group,” so only those who are willing to put in the work will find Intercept a good fit.

  • Intercept allows for men to join from anywhere in the world through the creative use of technology.

  • Intercept is intentional in everything it does, utilizing monthly large groups, weekly small groups and daily one-on-one connections.

  • Intercept incorporates all of the following unique elements, developed over years of experience:

    • An intensive 8-week Basic Training course to qualify for the transformation phase.

    • An approximately 4 year transformation curriculum/course

    • A 4-week graduation process

    • A 4-day annual retreat we call “Wintercept”

    • A weekly leadership development class (open to all)

    • A selection of weekly graduation groups for those who complete the program and desire to continue to grow

Intercept is highly recommended by professional counselors who vouch for the incredible difference that Intercept makes in a man’s progress toward lasting change because, again, Intercept works.

Is Intercept a Christian ministry?

Yes, Intercept is founded on and driven by the truths of the Bible, and it teaches Protestant Evangelical Christian theology throughout its curriculum, applying it to daily living. We have partnered with multiple churches in Vancouver, WA.

You do not, however, need to be a professing Christian, or agree to a statement of faith, in order to join Intercept. All men can benefit from the truths and tools taught. We do believe that personal wholeness and freedom from the penalty, power and presence of sin are only possible through loving and obeying Jesus Christ (John 10:10, John 14:6, John 3:16).

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3).

Does Intercept have a cost?

Yes, being a member of Intercept costs $100 upfront and $25 per month. The upfront cost provides each new member with a printed copy of Intercept’s Basic Training manual, as well as a printed copy of the women’s workbook developed by Intercept wives to be used as an optional healing resource for your wife or girlfriend (i.e. only if they want to use it—it’s strongly encouraged but not required). The monthly recurring cost pays for ongoing ministry expenses such as computer and audio-visual equipment, marketing tools, financial aid for Wintercept, and ministry outreach.

In addition, each member is responsible for purchasing their own curriculum used in the weekly small group (9+ books), and each February we plan a ministry-wide retreat we call “Wintercept” that costs $100 per person. Financial assistance is available upon request.

How do I join Intercept?

If you are interested in joining Intercept, please complete our onboarding form. One of our Basic Training leaders will reach out to schedule a time for a call. On the call your particular circumstances will be discussed, as well as what the commitment to Intercept is.

If both sides agree that it’s a good fit, you will join the start of our next available Basic Training class, which begins on the first Thursday of every quarter (January, April, July, October).

What is the commitment to Intercept?

When you join Intercept, you are making a 3-4 year commitment to the program, including a commitment to attend a 2-hour small group every single week (no exceptions other than genuine emergencies).

You will be required to agree to Intercept’s formal Group Guidelines, as well sign a Commitment to Engage and Memo of Understanding. In addition, there are several specific prerequisites you must meet in order to graduate from the Intercept program.

Be sure to ask as many questions as you need in order to gain clarity on what will be expected of you prior to making the Intercept commitment.

What should I expect as a member of an Intercept group?

You should expect to be challenged, but not fixed. Loved and accepted, but not let off the hook. Expect yourself to succeed, because it’s possible. Expect to do hard things. Expect to get out of it what you put into it.

Between the Thursday night group, weekly homework, daily spiritual disciplines and midweek phone calls, most men expect Intercept to require between 8-12 hours per week.

Depending on your life stage and current commitments, it may require a minor or major rearranging of your life to make Intercept a priority.

When is Intercept?

The weekly Intercept group meetings occur every Thursday at 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm (Pacific Time). This includes both the Basic Training onboarding class and the ongoing Transformation Groups, whether in-person or on video.

The Intercept Leadership Development class occurs weekly from 6:25 pm to 7:25 pm (PT).

Various Intercept Graduation Groups meet weekly at several other days and times. Also, “Intercept” is happening every day of the week as hundreds of midweek connections are made between the men of Intercept.
